1881 census records of Mary and Anne Muston and
families.
Household 1: (Note: All links take you to the LDS website www.familysearch.org, all data
derived from the same website )
Anne and Thomas
Dunkley are shown as living at “Woodmarket” in Lutterworth which is a street
about 500 metres long. Woodmarket was
then on the southern edge of the township.
Nearby are several churches which may hold records of the family. (refer maps below). It
appears that Anne has broken away from her farm labourer family roots and
married a bootmaker with one employee.
Note her daughter

Household 2:
Living less than 10 miles from Mary
is her sister Anne Hewins at Thurlaston which appears to be a small farming
village. The map shows a village with a church and a
sand quarry nearby however household 3 (below) lists a stone quarry
worker. In the 1901 Thurlaston census
Thomas and Anne are living in Croft Road Thurlaston alone, the next building in
the street appears to be the Elephant and Castle Inn. (link) Croft Road is the southern entrance to the town
and is now called
On the 1924
electoral role Ann (aged 80) is still living at Croft Rd Thurlaston with
Catherine, Thomas and John, probably her grandchildren but over the age of 21.
No ages or surnames are listed ?. Ann is remembered as being caretaker of the
baptist chapel in Thurlaston.

Household 3:
Living 4 doors
away from Anne in Thurlaston is Thomas Hewins Senior, presumed to be her
father-in-law. It appears that a Hewins
daughter married a Mr Oliver hence the names of grandchildren below, and also the name
of Annes son Oliver Hewins above.
